“Don’t Feel Like Feeling Sad Today” by YUNGBLUD
As implied by the chorus, the origin of “Don’t Feel Like Feeling Sad Today” dates back to Yungblud waking up one morning and, based on what some netizens were saying about him, feeling discouraged to face the world. The way that sentiment is ultimately expressed in the lyrics comes off more as if the vocalist has a gripe with the overall state of society.
But regardless of the premise, what the thesis sentiment is designed to revolve around is Yungblud touting happiness as a goal which – let’s say given the current state of the world from his perspective – must be achieved through conscientious effort. But that idea does not come through in the lyrics.
Rather as relayed, the vocalist is putting forth that how he counteracts such depression is by being ‘right at the side’ of the addressee. The nature of his relationship with this individual is not specified. But considering that beforehand, in the selfsame chorus, Yungblud also implies that, due to being turned off by the world, he intends to spend the day in bed, then the logical assumption would be that the addressee is his lover, i.e. the person who would be beside him in such a setting.
So conclusively, perhaps “Don’t Feel Like Feeling Sad Today” can be classified as yet another song which, as originally intended, did not have any type of romantic element. But by the time it did eventually get around to coming out, apparently one was added in the name of making the track more consumable or what have you.
