“Charlie Brown” by Beabadoobee

The title of this song is actually a reference to the famous Charlie Brown comic strip, of which Beabadoobee is a really big fan. To prove the point, she actually has an entire four-panel Charlie Brown cartoon tattooed on her arm. And reportedly, said engraving is meant to remind her not to adopt too drastic of a disposition when she gets depressed.  And it is the same notion upon which this song is based. The singer knows that at certain times, such a mentality has the tendency to overtake her. But remembering “Charlie Brown” (or more specifically one of the main characters from the franchise, Snoopy) also reminds her that there are people in her life who care.  And as such she needs to “slow down” as opposed to getting “back on old”, i.e. self-harmful, “habits”.

Who is the cartoon character Charlie Brown?

Charlie Brown is one of the leading characters in the animated comic strip entitled “Peanuts”. He’s mostly portrayed as the well-meaning and likeable person who’s always a victim of bad luck. Due to this, Charlie is seen as a person with low self-confidence. His unique zigzag-styled shirt makes it easy for viewers and readers to identify him. The character is the only one to have survived the transformation of the strip since the last five decades.

Records have indicated that Charlie was born on October 30, and in one of the strips he originally appeared in 1950, he was said to be four years old. The name first appeared in a 1948 comic strip entitled “Lil’ Folks”. However, his first appearance in the “Peanuts” strip came in 1952. The character became very popular in the 1960s when readership of the strip reached over 355 million. In February 2000, Charlie made his final appearance on the strip. Charles M. Schulz, creator of the character, described Charlie Brown as the “caricature of the average person”.
