“Deep Pockets” by Drake

The title of this song (“Deep Pockets”) is actually a colloquial terms alluding to the idea of the individual it is ascribed to being well paid. However, this isn’t one of those types of tracks in which Drake is bragging about his wealth per se. Rather it can be said to be more centered on his come up, as in the rapper reflecting on the days when he dreamed about the type of success that he is currently experiencing. And in the midst of doing such he also refers to the notion, as with other tracks on the “Dark Lane Demo Tapes”, that even after becoming a mega-superstar he has remained loyal to those who were with him from the jump.

In fact he has made a conscientious effort to use his standing and resources to keep his loved one out of jail and indeed even the funeral home. There are also, specifically at the beginning of the first verse, quite a few lyrics dedicated to street violence. Yet it isn’t so much in regards to Drizzy presenting himself as a thug but rather acknowledging that, via his background, he has bore witness to such a lifestyle. So all things considered calling this track braggadocious would be a stretch. More accurately it can be deemed as a celebration of the fact that Drake’s dreams have come true, as now he and his homeys are “rolling” with “deep pockets”.
