“Demon Time” by Trippie Redd (ft. Ski Mask the Slump God)
The name of this song, “demon time”, is a term we’ve come across before. What it alludes to, most simply put, is being naughty during the late hours of the nights. Well, based on the other songs on the Trip at Knight album we know that Trippie Redd is like this pretty much no matter what time of the day it is.
Accordingly, this is yet another track in which he presents himself as a rich gangsta, i.e. with ‘diamonds on his neck’, “lot of Perkys”, guns ‘flaming up opps houses’ and what have you. And whereas it may be worthy to note that he relies on terms such as like “hell”, “devil”, “God” and of course “demon” to get his points across, those are words which can pretty much be found throughout the entire album also.
In fact this is a song in which a number of religious references are made, such as Ski Mask noting how one day he’ll be “at heaven’s gate”, contrary to many people viewing him as “satanic” in the here and now.
But such an observation is not to imply that Demon Time is spiritual or religious in nature. Instead it is very much worldly, with the Slump God proceeding for instance to note how his enemies’ girlfriends are “out here sucking meat”, i.e. giving fellatio, “every day”. However, what is particularly noteworthy about Ski’s verse is that he drops a number of pop media references, including a shoutout to The Legend of Zelda series and a mention of Bill Cosby.
In the End
So conclusively, let’s say under normal circumstances a song based on a title/theme like “demon time” would afford the participating vocalists the opportunity to really let their hair down. But since acts such as Trippie Redd and Ski Mask the Slump God are always on that sh-t, then this is just a run-of-the-mill outing as far as they’re concerned.
