“Dancing in the Kitchen” by LANY
The title of this LANY song (“Dancing in the Kitchen”) is meant to be taken quite literally. And to set the stage initially, what the vocalist is saying is that he appreciates the beauty of the city alright.
But that established he would rather be at home, chillin’ with his significant other, than spending the night out on the town. And such is a regular disposition of his. So even if the two of them travel for instance, no matter how far “around the world” they may go, they “always end up” back at home.
Or if conversely there is some type of calamity going on outside, then there’s no place the narrator would rather be than at home in the arms of his sweetheart. Or put more plainly, he enjoys home-based quality time with her more so than engaging in any other activity or being in any other setting.
And symbolically, he expresses so via the phrase “dancing in the kitchen”. Or put differently, the title this song is based is ultimately a metaphor for once again being at home, spending quality time with his sweetheart. But as alluded to earlier, said quality time may well entail the two of them literally “dancing in the kitchen”.
LANY is a band that has been professionally active since 2014. Their name is a combination of the acronyms for Los Angeles (LA) and New York (New York), with the crew being recognized as coming from the former.
Between 2014 and 2020, LANY has released four EPs as well as three studio full-lengths. The last of those efforts, 2020’s Mama’s Boy, has been their most-successful project to date, breaking the top 10 of the Billboard 200 and the top 20 of the UK Albums Chart.
There are actually three members of LANY, who all have been down since day one. And they are as follows:
- frontman Paul Klein
- drummer Jake Goss
- keyboardist Charles Priest
And to note, every member of the trio can and does play more than one instrument.
As far as singles go, LANY has only had two notable hits up until this point. The first was 2015’s ILYSB, which even though it didn’t chart still managed to be certified gold by the RIAA. And secondly was 2019’s Mean It, a collaboration with Lauv that managed to chart in a number of countries.
“Dancing in the Kitchen”
Being released on the date of 25 June 2021, it appears that “Dancing in the Kitchen” is the first single LANY has dropped as the sole headliner during said year. Earlier in 2021 they did come out with a track entitled I Quit Drinking, albeit co-headlining the tune alongside Kelsea Ballerini.
The director of this track’s music video is Matty Peacock.
Paul Klein is credited as one of the writers of “Dancing in the Kitchen”. He accomplished the said task in conjunction with Andrew Goldstein, Ian Pollack and the track’s producer, John Ryan.
