Meaning of “Better Now” by Post Malone

“Better Now” is a song recorded and performed by American rapper, songwriter and singer Post Malone. The lyrics of this song see Malone talking about a past romantic relationship he had with a girl. In the lyrics Malone tells his ex-girlfriend of how sorry he feels for letting her down. He goes on to tell her that he still has feelings for her (which he is disguising) and that he believes she also still has feelings for him (which she is also disguising).

It is not clear if the lyrics of “Better Now” are autobiographical. Many fans of Post Malone believe that the song is about the same girl who Malone talked in his 2016 hit song “I Fall Apart”. FYI: The lyrics of “I Fall Apart” song were inspired by a real breakup.

But are the lyrics of “Better Now” based on a real romantic relationship in Malone’s life?

  • This song was co-written by Malone and three other songwriters. The names of the writer are as follows: Billy Walsh, Louis Bell and Frank Dukes.
  • In addition to co-writing the song, Dukes and Bell also produced it.
  • “Better Now” was released on April 27th, 2018 and appears on Malone’s critically acclaimed second studio album Beerbongs & Bentleys. The album topped several album charts across the globe including the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200.
  • This song, just like all the other songs on the album (Beerbongs & Bentleys), was mastered by American mastering engineer Mike Bozzi. Over the years, Bozzi has worked with such famous artists as Janet Jackson, Kendrick Lamarr, 2Pac and Linkin Park.
  • The song performed very well in many countries the world over. It not only made its debut in the top 10 in many countries but also peaked at number 7 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. As for the UK Singles Chart, this song soared to number 6.
  • “Better Now” is considered one of Malone’s most successful songs.
  • During the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, American singer and songwriter Taylor Swift expressed her love for Malone’s “Better Now” upon meeting him backstage. She told Malone she felt the song was “so insane” and that she was so “jealous” of “Better Now” and its amazing “hook”.
