Meaning of “Too Cool To Die” by Post Malone

The lyrics of Post Malone’s “Too Cool To Die” aren’t complicated at all. But at the same time, it can be said that what Posty means by stating that he’s “too cool to die” is a matter of interpretation. For instance, in the selfsame chorus in which he makes that statement, the vocalist also acknowledges that he’s “not here for long”. He may be speaking of the location he’s currently at or alluding to his mortality in general. And that’s type of ambiguity we are forced to deal with in interpreting this piece.

“I’m not here for long, my baby
I’m just passin’ by
The world keeps gettin’ hotter, baby
But I’m too cool to die”

But all lyrics considered, one way of understanding the titular phrase in context is along the lines of Malone alluding to being the type who would never take his own life. That is to say that Posty uses the opportunity of this track to refer to how he’s chillin’, especially as far as dealing with romantic interests is concerned.

Needless to say, stating that you’re “too cool to die” is a braggadocious or prideful statement to begin with. But more specifically, that sentiment points to this being a celebratory outing. Or as the vocalist puts forth in the pre-chorus, he ‘feels dynamite’.

So conclusively, we are not taking it that Austin literally feels like he’s so hip that he’ll never pass away.  Rather, the thesis sentiment reads like his way of saying that he’s enjoying life too much to let anything get him down.
