“Sad” by Juice WRLD

The addressee of Juice WRLD’s “Sad” is most likely a romantic interest. And whereas this is yet another tune in which WRLD harps on the topic of his own mental issues, more to the point is his concern for this individual. That is this person comes off as being depressed in her own right. And the primary message Juice is putting across is his desire to see her “smile”, “prosper” and “come proper”, as in live a happy, fulfilling life. 

So what is actually making the rapper “sad”, as the title suggests, is the fact that it seems he cannot bring about these desired changes in her life. So basically, both he and she are “sad”. However, he has not given up on reaching this goal. Indeed Juice WRLD is prepared to even separate himself from this loved one, if that’s what it takes to ultimately make her happy. Or stated differently, he doesn’t want his own personal issues to negatively “impact” her also.

“Sad” was never officially released. However, it did manage to leak online on the date of 15 July 2018.

The track was written by Juice WRLD along with Nick Mira, whom he frequently worked with and who also served as the producer of “Sad”.

At the beginning of this track’s singular verse, Juice WRLD states that there is a ‘devil on his shoulder telling him he will die soon’. This is another of his lyrics which in hindsight appear foretelling, as Juice did in fact pass away, at the age of 21, on 8 December 2019.
