“Paid My Dues” by Roddy Ricch (ft. Takeoff)

To note, despite being an established rap star, Roddy Ricch is only 23 years old as of the dropping of this track (“Paid My Dues”). And apparently that is the backdrop upon which the vocalist asserts that he has ‘paid his dues’, as in some people may hate on him for being young and poppin’, but he’s earned his way to the top. 

And it’s not that Roddy is giving too much thought to haters anyway, as he makes it plainly known, on this and other tracks featured on “Live Life Fast”, that he will promptly resort to the gat if physically threatened.

But overall, once again like other track’s featured on “Live Life Fast”, the main emphasis of this song appears to be the artist’s sexual relations. And in that regard he most notably puts forth, most simply explained, that he can and will have sex with any of his romantic interests “on the first date”. 

Also to note, the main vocalist of the sole verse on “Paid My Dues” is East Coast rapper Takeoff, who is more or less backing everything that Ricch asserts.

So conclusively, the thesis sentiment being argued is that the likes of Roddy Ricch and Takeoff are bold for a reason. And that’s because, as implied, they have ‘paid their dues’, i.e. made the sacrifices leading to their success and therefore are not privy to ‘holding their tongues’ for anyone.

Release of “Paid My Dues”

“Paid My Dues” is the sixth track on Roddy’s “Live Life Fast” album. The album was officially released on 17th of December 2021 as his second studio project.

Despite consisting of 18 tracks, the album produced only one single (“Late at Night“).
